The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
