“Being 58, which suggests I could make the decision later on, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on the specific conditions must arise to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for interviews multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the team having a nice chat, is pleasant. With many victories meaning regularly great spirits at the club. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role due to the changes which secured the championship last term. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the notion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
He shared movingly about the death of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, along with the consequences at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a road accident together with his sibling recently.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? It’s not about his footballing ability, it's his character. I can’t imagine the dressing room absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad too. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this on a personal level is not easy. Overwhelming.”
