Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland has passed away aged 24.

Kneeland was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the draft in the 2024 NFL Draft and played 18 times for the team, with four starting appearances.

He recorded his initial touchdown in Tuesday's defeat to the Arizona Cardinals when he recovered a blocked punt.

"Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organisation," the Dallas Cowboys stated.

"Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family."

Kneeland was selected by Dallas with the 56th selection of the 2024 NFL Draft after playing college football for Western Michigan.

His representative, Jonathan Perzley, said his "heart aches" for the loss of the athlete who "gave his all" into each opportunity.

"I watched him fight his way from a hopeful kid at Western Michigan with a goal to being a esteemed pro for the Dallas Cowboys," Perzley commented.

The NFL stated it is "deeply saddened" by the tragic event.
